Hey everyone, you're listening to five years time with your host Grace black.

Hi, everyone, welcome back to five years time with your host Grace, that's me. If you're watching via YouTube, you can see that I'm having quite a self care day with my glass of water, my eye patches, and my cozy was gone. And the reason for that is I'm just not feeling that hot. So if I was going to record this as how I was going to record Sorry, I just took a big sip of water. But that's how we are over here. Anyways, I only am going to give you a brief recap on my week because we have a such an exciting guest today seriously, we have Mackenzie from fitness, beauty health, which is a amazing resource and online resource and in person resource. Anyways, when we get into the conversation, you'll hear lots more about it. But Mackenzie and we have a special relationship that has carried me through a lot of who I am today and myself growth. And yeah, I'm just really excited to have her on and share her message because she has been such a bright light in my life. And I really think she'll be a really bright light in your lives as well. She also is providing us with an amazing promo code. So make sure to stay till the end. Because you don't want to miss out on this deal. Seriously, I can't wait to use this deal. Anyways, let's get into this past week. So this past week was, you know, we're at that point, I actually reached the point in winter where I'm just over it right, like it's just gloomy and gray. It's actually a beautiful sunny day, as I'm saying that today. But in general, it's gloomy and gray and blah. But then I saw tick tock where someone was saying like, Oh, we're at that point in winter where I'm over it. And I was like, Yes, I agree. And then I saw another tick tock that was like, Oh, we're at that point where it's like officially winter and there's like a few months that we have to like, buckle down and get through and I'm like, oh my god, is that it? It's officially winter. It's only officially winter. Like I feel like we've been in winter forever. But it's it's true. Like, it's only February. And it winter last till March and sometimes a little bit into May. Anyways, that was that was a big like, overarching feel this past week, I also think like, I just need to start breaking some habits. I talked about this on Sunday reset where I'm on my phone too much. And I know I've spent I've spoken about it on here as well. But I really need to like break those habits, maybe I'll do. I'm going to be as I'm being as mindful this week as I can with not using my phone in the morning not using it like not using it as soon as I wake up not using it 30 minutes before bed and keeping it out of sight out of mind while I'm like working on something actively. And just like being more mindful about it and setting those expectations for myself. And so maybe I'll do an episode. I don't know if next week or whatever. I feel like I have learned what I have learned from this all about how to break that phone habit. It's so hard because especially for me it's such a documentarian, like I love to take pictures and videos. And also I always have things going on in my mind, and I need to write them down or also forget about them. Especially with the podcast, so I just love to have the phone with me so I can do all those things. But then I find that I'm mindlessly picking it up and just like scrolling, and then it's like 15 minutes later, and I feel icky. Like I just have this like I don't even know like mind fog to me. Anyways. But yeah, so that's something I'm trying to be really mindful about. So last week that was kind of like a deterrent, a deterrent. I don't know if that's the word I want but that was like a something that was blooming and looming or I don't even know apparently I don't know how to speak. But those were there was just like, in the foreground was I was on my phone way too much. And I just need to like chillax. So anyways, that's that. I'm trying to think like, oh, you know what, me and Ro went out for a few walks. That was so nice. Each morning. I would put her in her stroller or sometimes after dinner because it's been a little lighter after dinner, which is really nice. But anyway, so I'll put her in her stroller. And then we'll walk around the the block and it's been so nice. So that's been a really nice thing to do. And it's just been nice to have the fresh air and yeah, just be out there. And I wrote isn't walk in her stroller that often because she always wants to be in her feet. But now that it's like pretty snowy and hard she's like comfortable to be in the stroller because it's it's kind of difficult to walk in all the sledge.

So that's been really nice. And yeah, I think just doing things like that will help me get out of this like rut. So going on my walks, oh, I also went to the gym on Friday, which I haven't been to the gym in a while. Because I put my membership on hold and blah, blah, blah. Anyways, I took my average about off hold and was like, Okay, I'm going to go at some point. And so I went on Friday, and it was actually really nice. And it was a really great. Like, that was like a perfect time. Maybe I'll always do Fridays or like, try to aim for Fridays, because it was like, kind of set me up into my weekend. I went out to the gym after we put Rosie bed and then I picked up dinner on the way home. And then I was just able to like chill, take a shower, watch some shows. Like it was just a really nice, like, go into the weekend. So yeah, maybe that'll be my new gym day. So anyways, I'm trying to just like implement things into my routine that obviously with like COVID and situations were cut out. And so this will help me like feel more focused on what I want to be doing and mindful about how I'm using my time. Then on Saturday morning, as you heard for Sunday, reset was row slept in, which ultimately turned into her being sick. So later that day, she was feeling well. And then next day I wake up I'm not feeling well. And here we are not feeling well. Which is not nice. I always forget how like not nice it is to feel sick. It's just like your whole body aches and you just like, aren't comfortable. Like you don't you can't do anything. You just want to lay down but you're not even comfortable laying down. And because it is me in row sick at same time. It's like we're just watching her shows which like isn't enjoyable for me. So, yeah, it's just been like, a little bit a blah, blah, blah, around here, but hopefully we're on the ups and I'm already I already feel like tomorrow will be the day that I'm feeling like start to feel better. And I think Rosa day ahead of me, so she should be starting to feel better by today. Like by the afternoon, you know, you know the pattern of sickness. But anyways, that's where we are thankfully, Trevor hasn't gotten sick. So all is well in that department. He's able to take care of us. Um, but yeah, I think that's pretty much my recap for this week. Oh, it was Valentine's Day on Monday. And we don't really ever do anything like two specials. Normally we'll go out to dinner, but I wasn't feeling well. But Trevor did get us some fun cards, Rosie like loves cards right now. And he got us Easter candy, which is the best everyone knows Easter chocolate is better than Valentine's Day chocolate. So I'm happy to have that. But yeah, so I think that's it for the recap. I'm so excited for this conversation you're about to listen to, with me and Mackenzie I pre warning I get I might get emotional in it. And that's just like a true testament to the relationship and the effect she's had on my life in my world. And I hope that you guys get lots out of this and that you have the opportunity to meet and connect with her in interesting new ways. So anyways, Mackenzie's coming up, thanks so much. I'll be back at the end with our roses, thorns and buzz and our entertainment recap. And then yeah, make sure you follow McKenzie and fitness, beauty health. Everything will be linked below. And there is going to be an amazing promo code. So look forward to that. Okay, bye

Take a breath

Grace  9:14
Welcome to five years time this I feel has is like an inevitable interview that I have just been waiting and waiting and waiting to happen. And I'm so happy it's here.

Mackenzie  9:25
honor to be here. Thank you for having me. Very excited to chat.

Grace  9:31
Oh, me too. And I'm just gonna say that you have probably been the most notable mention through this entire podcast of the basis of where all my self growth comes from, like seriously.

Mackenzie  9:45
Yeah, cool. Well, thank you for thank you for thinking of me and thank you for allowing me to join your space your beautiful space and your audience. Hello graces audience. And I want to kind of just start there as to the why, why I have stood out not me, but more my beliefs or philosophy, how that translated to you five years ago and how and why you still implement whatever it was that landed on you or in you today?

Grace  10:25
Yes, look at you asking me questions on the tables have turned. You know, what I had always felt that fitness was something that had to do with a perception of how people saw you how your body looked all about that. And I never could connect fully with my body because I just felt like there was shame around it. And I don't I'm not someone who likes to live in the shame. So it's like, I was scared to enter a fitness world, if that was going to be the world that it was, I one day decided to join a new gym. And it was like, literally, that day, I bought my membership, sign up for a class over lunch, and came and it happened to be your stability vocal class, which sits with me and in my heart forever, but I the way that you taught that class, and the way that you came out with information that was just like, I was learning, I wasn't, I wasn't there to look a certain way I was there connecting with my body, and learning why we move in a certain way, or why we breathe in a certain way. Or why just why our bodies exist and how we're supposed to care for them. Like it was this like, revolutionary thing. Like I literally still think about that. But I remember it for like 24 hours after that. I was like, whoa, what has just happened, what is just entered my life like it was something clicked inside of me. And I mean, I've carried that throughout me and our years together of practice has just meant so much. And I just truly value that you come at each client that you have in each class that you teach with this education and knowledge and you're there to teach. And it's almost a negative because I have not been able to experience that.

Mackenzie  12:30
I'm sorry, you haven't been able to find me in other places. However, I still teach. I just, I just finished a Pilates sculpt class. Grace, I want to I want to just start by saying thank you for allowing that, you know, allowing your ears to be open for a class because you're right. Some people come in with the Okay, how much can I sweat? Let me set my Fitbit Apple Watch. How much can I sweat? How much can I burn? What is my goal today, and goals are great. I love goals, I love setting up new habits and such. However, my approach to movement, my approach to fitness and teaching is education, I want to inspire you. And I want you to learn something new about your body, every time you start your class, whether you are whether you are there with the intention to burn excess amount of calories or tone your arms or legs, I want you to first of all, breathe into your body, I will not allow you to move your body until you are fully breathing. And I mean a fully breathing by taking a full inhale into your maximum capacity, and a full exhale. And that is how we optimally move our body. That is how we engage and activate our muscles. And so I think something that may have really landed with you is as we were doing our stability ball class, which was awesome was you were learning how to move your body in in exercises that you've always done. But you were you were learning which muscles were being turned on which muscles needed to be turned on and which ones needed to be there to support or, or to stabilize literally instability ball. You know, for example, our dominant leg is there because we're in a lunge, yet our other leg, that glute is the one that is activating and lifting and that is what we're toning. And as soon as you click that, oh, that's what's supposed to be happening, then that's your base of knowledge and you in a way kind of take it with you into all your other workouts and we have life right you know, we're 100 are active. We're active beings. We're up and down. We're bending, we're lifting and if you think about alignments, Think about engaging your body, then you will live a long healthy pain free life. Yeah,

Grace  15:06
and just what you said there like that that message does carry with me every day. And it is such an amazing thing to actually think about, like, why is my body doing that? Or what am I using to make sure that I can go up the stairs and carry my laundry basket or whatever it is like in there's the slightest little things I think about all the time. And it's not something that I'm thinking about all the time, like, I'm thinking about this, it's just like, in my mind, like, I'm just thinking about it.

Mackenzie  15:35
So the next time you're walking up the stairs for all of you, I want you to think about your hamstrings and your glutes, you take that step and you're using your hamstrings and your glutes to leverage you up. And then up. And then what also is happening is not your quads as you're stepping but your abdominals. So by engaging your core and engaging your hamstring and glutes, that's how you'll hike and walk and use the correct muscles. I think that's something that was very, you know, pronounced in Okay, that was different, is using the correct muscle groups when you're working out?

Grace  16:11
Oh, totally. And I remember when I remember in your first class, or your first couple classes, I was like, oh, man, this girl, she keeps coming and telling me what to do. Like, I just want to be here, like, stop coming. Ultimately, ultimately, I remember I'd come home and say to Trevor, like, I don't know, like, she just keeps coming up to me, like, what am I doing wrong? Like, this is so annoying, I just want to work out and she went that it was my friend. And then it was like, You know what, she's actually trying to teach me something like, if I open my mind to it, I'll be better for it. And I'll learn so much more. And that was a total click for me. Like, I feel like I used to always go into group fitness thinking like, I just want to do my own thing be my own world. Like, don't look at me, don't watch me. But yeah, you

Mackenzie  17:01
very well, I remember very well, it was it was I think it was the fall and may have been August or September around that time. And I remember you in the stability ball class, because those classes of low impact movement are in a category for older ladies, older men,

Grace  17:20
I used to go to a one before you that was all I was like 30 years younger than everyone.

Mackenzie  17:26
Yeah. And, and I'd say you know, just just incorporating what what our brand core values are is low impact movement is for everyone. You do not have to be over 40 or 50 to do low impact movement. And I think that's why I kept kind of crawling towards you because I was so happy that there was someone my age that understood, low impact movement, quality movement for your body is going to help you perform in every way of your life. Whether you're a tennis player, a boxer a runner, you love CrossFit, you love hit anything it is that you love to do low impact movement is your best friend. It's your support system, because it is always bringing your body back into alignment back into range of motion, motion back into brass. And you need it in order to perform everything else in your life. So I was just happy to see someone who got it. Yes, I believe I believe that I need this.

Grace  18:33
Yeah, no, I mean that I will always say that was my favorite class in the whole wide world. And the way that you taught it was just amazing. So I can't complain. I have my stability ball here every so often I pick it up and do my things. And it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I guess I just want to know also like, I feel like our audience would love to know as well like, tell us about yourself, like, what are you doing? What's your business? Like? How can we train with you?

Mackenzie  19:04
Yeah, let me let me start in the present before I go back, go present right now. It's February 2022. And we are currently running fitness beauty health online, which is a online platform where we have quality pre recorded workouts that range from primarily 40 to 60 minutes, we believe that workout should be done longer than 30 minutes or 30, at least to 60 to really maximize the whole body movement and activation. So we have a full library of low impact but also cardio and focus workouts whether that is a lower body sculpt a core and arms and of course mobility and meditation. Yeah, in addition to the recorded video library, so You can do that anytime, wherever you are. We offer live classes if you're more of a hold me accountable type of person, then join the live classes, which is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Everything is on our Instagram and our website fitness beauty health.ca And we'll throw a promo code at everyone so they can they can try a month try a month, right just try a month and see how low impact movement which is Pilates, yoga, ballet bar, yen movement, restorative movement, how it feels for you, right? Just give it a try, give it a try. And you know, do it with your partner with your best friend with your mother with someone that you know would also love it. So that's what we're doing right now. And that will take us that's um, we call this in a way our offseason because in our on season which begins in May we run fitness beauty health Muskoka, which is our seasonal studio up on Lake Muskoka. And we will be there in May to for a long weekend. It's beautiful and sunny, we will be there otherwise, we start the we start the full season July 1 And we run every day until Labor Day. And that is 8am and 930. Pilates, yoga, sculpt and Sunday stretch on the dock Northlake Misko Muskoka, which is near Port Carlin, Port Stanfield about you know, 40 minutes from Gravenhurst and Bracebridge, and an hour from Barry, all of that. And we are there until September. And we'll be also hopefully growing our business up there for two locations. And then usually three. So we'll be there in the summer. And then yeah, more to come more to come in the fall. So that's for us right now. That's that's what we're that's what our focus is right now.

Grace  22:05
Yeah, I know, I need to get to the docks, like it just seems like the best thing ever. But now that I've moved, like a whole nother hour away from Toronto, I'm like, I gotta get there. I gotta get there. Well, you're,

Mackenzie  22:17
you're you're in a different region. Right? Like you have your own, you know, you have your own beauty where you are. All of your towns there. I know. Guelph and so that area all the way that stretches all the way up to Niagara, there is so much to find, and to discover and to enjoy. I know. You'll get there grace, I know I will get there you'll get there. You'll always have a spot. But in addition to our group classes, we do private training at people's homes and cottages, I have a lot of canceled. Say, Okay, I'm having my birthday party today. Come before and do a power yoga class or something like that. And yes, what I love about what about what I love about cottage life and summer life is everyone is there with their best friends and their family. And it's never really like two or three people there's 10 or 12. And ever everyone just you know wants to feel good. And that's what fitness beauty health is all about is educating you about your body, our holistic approach to wellness and mindfulness sharing that with you as much as we can as much as you want to, you know open your ears and absorb the information.

Grace  23:39
Yeah, I love that. That's like the best birthday ever. Just doing a workout. I think I spent my birthday prior to the pandemic with you. I went to a Yeah, I actually went to and then I was like, Oh, I miss doing workouts on my birthday. So I went to a meditation class on my birthday this year. And it was really slowly so way to Rana anywhere.

Mackenzie  24:06
Well one thing that I want to note about or want to just say about your practice to fitness from my observation is you were very much listening to your body right away because sometimes I wouldn't see you incivility ball, and you would be there later on doing a boxing class. And to me you knew that your body had that Yang power energy that you had to exert you were like on your game, you're ready to throw a punch. You've had all this cardio and you and you didn't need that. That slower body movement because you have so much in you and as women that usually falls around our ovulation cycle around our progesterone cycle. And that is is really the nature of the game about understanding your body as a whole, you know not just how your muscles are Feeling but what's going on in your nervous system? What's going on in your endocrine, endocrine and endocrine system? Your hormone system, your blood system? You know, what is? What did you eat yesterday that's making you feel so damn good today that you got to go for a run. Right? Yeah, like just just having that type of awareness is how to schedule your week.

Grace  25:24
Totally. And I feel like, I think that's one thing that I used to think about fitness was like, okay, my plan is to do this, this, this, this this, like, I'd lay out a pretty, like, not intense, but like, I, I complete all these things. Yeah. And then I it come around to that day, and it was like, I just wasn't there. Like, my mindset wasn't there, my body wasn't there. And I felt like a failure. Like it was like, I can't do it. Or why can't I do it, all these other people are able to do it, like you don't know what other people can do. But you have perceptions, right? And then after meeting you and learning about my connection to my body and feeling and actually listening to what my body is saying to me, like it was a whole change. And it's like, it's yes, you can have goals. But if you wake up one morning, and your body is not there, or you are on your period that week, and you just feel like oh, it's restorative, I need to do restorative that you can instead of instead of feeling like a failure, you can just pivot and do something restorative, do something low impact, do something where you feel meditative, or whatever, but I used to it was all or nothing. And now it's like, that's not actually how women work. We have this whole cycle that lasts the month, and we need to listen to what our body has to say, yeah.

Mackenzie  26:48
And get in sync with it, not just your body's in sync, your body's doing its thing, right? Like, it's like you don't have to decide when your ovaries are dropping, but you need to be aware of when it's happening and do that by you know, I love using the Flow app to know where I'm at in my cycle. I don't know things on the floor, but I'm just aware of you know, today I'm ovulating actually, yeah. And that's me is a huge piece of information. Because it means high estrogen. And high estrogen means you can you can climb a mountain. And climbing a mountain is great. You know, having that high. Estrogen is amazing. Listen to it. However, if your emotions and your mind is not balanced, you could have something you know not go so well. And I've had that experience personally. With seizures. Yeah, I've had, for the past three years, I've had, let's say just close to 10 seizures, and they've always fallen on ovulation. They've always fallen. When you know that high estrogen is hitting, but it's always happened because my emotions are of sorts, I'm overwhelmed. And there's maybe a lot going on personally, emotionally, with relationships or with work and whatever it is. And instead of taking it easy, I ignore it. And every time ignored it, I've had a seizure. And so for all you ladies listening and you know how do you how do you start to track it? Grab a notebook grab or use your calendar, right? Like today I'm feeling 10 at a time today I feel like I can do anything and my emotions. My health my my mind is calm tomorrow. I need to sleep. I need to nap. I need to popcorn. I need to watch a movie. Like just get get a sense of how you are because every day is different. I love what she said grace on a I mean, you do it in a few of your episodes. Your your thorn in your rose. Yes. So good. That's good. I see that. Um, I see that as highs and lows, you know, like a wave as highs and lows highs and lows. Yes. And you know, that's that's like feud, right you that's balance balances. The highs and the lows forms on the rows. You got to be aware of it all.

Grace  29:23
Totally. Yeah. And it's one of those things where I I used to always feel like I have to be high high high all the time. But once you actually like reflect on it and you almost like embrace everything, the highs, the lows, the in betweens, it just adds this flavor to life that you didn't even know existed. And you're really able to have that. That like out side of your body view like you're able to look over your life and think like, because of this is this and this is this like I Yeah, you you don't hold regrets once you let go, Oh my

Mackenzie  30:03
gosh, that's one thing. That's one thing we do not want to have in life is to live with regrets. And that is why I'm going forward with fitness beauty health, because I'm, I'm giving being an entrepreneur all I got, yeah, I'm going for it 100% I'm trying everything I can. And I'm taking it as far as I can I have dreams and goals. And I know where I want to go now. Now I Yeah, at the beginning, it was like, Oh, my gosh,

Grace  30:33
a little overwhelming.

Mackenzie  30:36
But it opportunities present themselves, right. We're having this conversation today, Grace, because you know, the work has been put in the time has been put in. And opportunities present themselves at the right times. And you got to take them in there. You got to take them you can't sit back and wait, you can't live with regrets.

Grace  30:57
No, you definitely can't. And I love that you said that. Because I feel like I've been doing this podcast for just over a year. And I've wanted to do a podcast for like years. And it took me so much time to like, finally do it. And then once I started doing it, it was just one of those things where it clicked. It was like, Yes, this was the missing piece. Like this is what I need. And now like coming into 2022 I'm going like five times harder. And I just have never felt this type of creative power. And I have always been someone who felt like I held creativity inside of me, but I was never enough I'm not worthy of it. I was I'm not. I don't know, I never felt like good enough. Or like there's always someone better or whatever. But honestly, like, you just have to remove all the noise and focus fully on you and your goals and your mindset and like yeah, it's pretty powerful once you give yourself the power how far you can go because like, every week, it's like I need more I want to do more. I got to do more. Yeah, yeah.

Mackenzie  32:08
And bring yourself back. Right? I think there's there's something very powerful about turning yourself out away from the default of say social media where yes, that's stimulus response that that that hit of dopamine is there right away and I have found in the past couple months that I actually then lose my train of thought or lose my my inspiration because I'm distracted by someone else and you know, I follow people that I'm inspired by whether we are you know doing the same thing and have similar clients or whatever but taking you're taking your eyes off that and turning back to yourself turn it back to your notes going for a walk oh my gosh, what a walk does for your mind it brings everything back it's clarity just Yes spelling everything out in front of you. So remember that everyone when when you see yourself with a mind of clouds or blocks put the phone away go for a walk you know take take some full breaths and just allow yourself to be set up for success by trusting yourself totally and believing in yourself there's a I'll use this quote from my father and it's called P five and it stands for proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance P five I'll repeat it proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance and I mean he's got a million of those but he I love that because it it's true. You know if you're prepared you're you're set up and for whatever reason this year something came to me and it was a different type of P five it's something that I've been able to keep keep sacred and really hold strong as you know, sometimes the gearshift and if that's purpose power, peace patients possibilities and for whatever reason they're all pews No, I don't know what's what's with my dad and I were living by those and going back to those keeps you on track. Yeah, I'm on track especially when you're trying to pursue something that's new and something maybe that you you know don't have a master's degree in but have a strong passion for right like Don't ignore your passions, okay, like your passions are whispers of your soul, your passions AR is a greater, greater gift trying to come forward. And yeah, easier passions.

Grace  35:08
Yes, I love that I love that it is a greater gift in it. It's so like on the note of like social media and making sure to go for a walk and leave it behind and like focus back on what your core values are and what your goals are. It's so true. Like, I could have an amazing day feel so great about whatever work in progress I put into this, and then get on social media and feel like I'm not enough. I'm not doing enough. There's people out there doing more. And it just becomes this like downward spiral. But then, like, let's say I was to just turn off my phone, continue my day, maybe go to sleep, wake up the next morning. It's like, oh, wait, I actually am proud of myself. Like, Why did I let those initial? Yeah. And it's like, it's not worth the 10 minutes of me thinking I'm a failure when I was not so happy.

Mackenzie  35:56
No, absolutely not. My, my good friend Mia. She just for the month of January, she deleted everything or turned off everything. Yeah. And she isn't up to date with the latest. But she is sure to him present. She's so present and every day. And what's interesting is she has strengthened genuine friendships that are really true to her because she's not, you know, just commenting and messaging and DMing. But she is calling and texting. Timing. And, you know, I've told her she's missed nothing in the past on social media, other than, you know, a bunch of reels and whatever. But it's, it's yeah, it's important. You know, it's important, of course, to stay, stay aware of what's going on with the world and keep in touch with people, but also turn it off and go back and see and turn into your creativity. And that can be any form of expression.

Grace  37:00
Mm hmm. I think it took me till very recently, maybe in the past couple of months to learn that creativity isn't just like, this artistic beauty that somebody I don't know, like, it's not this, it's not necessarily this talent that you're looking at that like everyone's like, Oh, I could never do that, like creativity is you as a human and how you interact with the world and express yourself what you wear, like what you wear, no matter what, it doesn't have to be fat, like fashion is what you are your expression like, yeah, it's just so much more. And I remember watching a tick tock where the audio was something about like, you don't have to be good at your hobbies, you can just do them. And I was like, Whoa, I can just do them. Like I always felt like I needed to be perfect to share something or to connect with others about it. But it's not if you just enjoy doing it, just do it. Like just do what you love to do.

Mackenzie  38:01
Exactly, exactly. And that's that's how fitness beauty health came to be. It started the business started in three years ago but the essence of what fitness beauty health is started about started in 2013. So say eight, nine years ago. And fitness beauty health is exactly what it sounds like. It's it's having an fbH mindset every day it's implementing fbH into your day. So what type of movement or energy are you doing for your body your physical body beauty beauty is interviewee first off it's it's your mind it's the thoughts in your mind thoughts our emotions your body hears everything you say beauty does you know have that that realm of skincare which we believe is natural, you know, use as much coconut oil and grapeseed oil and sesame oil and and almond oil as you can for your skin in terms of hydration and moisturizer just keep a really simple beauty in your mind and and of course help How are you feeling your body? How are you eating? What are you eating? Why are you eating this and less is more in terms of health right? We don't need to be taking all these supplements we don't need to be doing this unless unless we're deficient in something. But But start with Whole Foods start with nourishing your body in a holistic way. So that concept came came to be after first year of college and I was like holy I need to get a grasp on my self. It was a rough first year finally rough. I feel like yeah everyone everyone. I went to plant based I went to whole food nutrition eating and I I want it to look good, but I also really want it to feel good. And it came. It then came to me with fitness as what else is there a movement other than dance. I grew up as a competitive dancer and all I knew was dance and, you know, yoga and pilates, but I knew dance. I didn't realize at the time, but I had lived with this axert amount of energy in my body that I had to let out somehow. And so I started picking up Pilates and yoga and aerobics and good life, body flow and jam and all that stuff. Yes. And then I was, so I studied art history and interior design, and decorating. And I actually went into fashion, I started working. I started working in fashion, and fashion designer, and I went immediately to New York City, and London and Paris. And it was a really, really amazing opportunity to experience work, you know, corporate industry, what, what, what it's like to work for a company and travel the world. And yeah, I was. I was really, I was setting a really cool opportunity to explore, alter ALL types of business and all types of management. And I was there for about five years. And every time I would go to say, a conference or a it's, it's a fashion show, but it's a it's a market. So we're there to display our collection and for clothing, retailers to purchase it. Now standing there, and I was looking around, and I'm looking at all these buyers and all these designers and I'm like, oh my god, I could care less about this. I do not care how many T shirts I put on this order. All I care about is making my vinyasa class at 7pm tonight, and then doing a meditation tomorrow. And so I in that moment of all of this, I began to really tune into what my what my passion was, unfortunately, as I was. Unfortunately, as I was working there, I diagnosed I was diagnosed with PCOS and digestive issues, and my body became a monster. And I mean, my schedule was insane. But I I was I was living a very

unhealthy life full of cortisol. Funny i i went to the doctor to get my hormones tested with PCOS. And they said I only produce testosterone, I no longer was producing estrogen or progesterone in my body. And so they're like, we'll put you on steroids to balance you out. I went home I'm like, You know what? That doesn't sound right. That sounds like the opposite thing I should do. So then I turned back to what I knew was fPh. And I went to see a more holistic functional medicine doctor, and we she put me on some Chinese herbs. And I received my period in three months. And that really began my journey of healing the body and understanding the body. The why, you know how you feel why you feel this way? And if there's something wrong, don't just put something in your mouth but get to the root issue get to the get to the why of it all. Yeah. And from there, I started teaching, I left the corporate world and I started teaching and I just put myself everywhere I could to get experience. And yeah, Bo were about that was that was about four, four years ago, is how I landed here.

Grace  44:19
Beautiful. I love that. And you know what I love about that story is that it's such a true message to what life is it's never about the destination and it's always about the journey. And I feel like people all the time say to me, oh grace, like I want to have like kids and be married and like have a house and whatever. And it's like yes you want all those things and no there isn't a time on it. Like literally once you get them your life doesn't end Do you still have things to live for you still have things to do so whether it takes you from now till a few From now until 10 years from now, all that life that you're living is still a beautiful thing. And like, I'm here, I think I think I have to remind myself that like, I always want it to be married and have a family. And I'm here and it's like, oh, wait, I still have so much more to give to myself and to the world around me. And I, I love that. I've switched my mindset there, because I was stuck for so long on, go to school graduate, have a family. Oh, wait, I'm only 25 When I did that. So what am I supposed to do now? Oh, wow. Yeah, it's it's one of those crazy things that I'm glad that the focus is moving off of that traditional value of, especially for women that kind of like your life is devoted to your family. And so the only thing you have is to make a family or create a family or be that, but I'm so happy that that's changing. And that so many powerful women around us and are doing these amazing things and choosing either not to have a family, because that's what they want, or choosing to have a family and continue on their journey and continue being whatever they want to do. And I just love that there's so much more support and examples out there.

Mackenzie  46:22
Yes, yes. And, you know, I see, I see that as I mean, we certainly have a completely different approach to it than our mothers said. And our mothers are so very proud of us of, of having so much courage and going for it so much, Dr. Wright, it was very uncommon to to do what we're doing back then. And I think that that's the way we see life is a lot of levels, right? You reached that level at 25. I was actually 25 When I made that switch as well. And and you just keep grasping these different levels and achievements in life and it doesn't end and you know, you you want to be you want to be old and wise and have had all these great accomplishments in your life. Yeah,

Grace  47:13
yeah. And, yeah, that's that, like, I've recently learned that I always said, I wasn't a sentimental person, because I don't connect myself to things very much. It's very easy for me to donate or go through and get rid of things. I never keep, I never think to keep something around. But I'm actually like a super sentimental person, because my memories are like my entire life. Like, I love to live in my brain and experience my life over and over again, like, it's one of my favorite things is I just go into lala land and like think things, and I love to share stories and all that stuff. But I, I want to exactly what you said, like, I want my world to be full of the most beautiful stories that I can share and that I can have for myself, and that I can look back on because that is the thing that brings me joy is the experiences that I've had.

Mackenzie  48:11
Yeah, life isn't one dimensional. You know, we we're in this constant state of evolution. And i i It's interesting, you said I'm not a sentiment, sentimental person like this who are. So So where So where was that programming, right? That word programming, I think is so important because we we limit ourselves when we are in this state of programming, you know, saying I can only I'm only going to feel I'm only really an eight to 10 every day, like, I can't really feel 10 at a time, you know, I just got to I got to play it safe. See? Yeah, save? Like, where does this sense of programming come from? And why are you limiting yourself? There's a beautiful book called The Art of possibilities. And I recommend listening to it through an audio book, because that they it's a husband and wife and they are musicians of the orchestra. And so there's a lot of orchestra music playing at the heart of possibilities is really that anything and everything is possible and do not limit yourself or hold yourself back.

Grace  49:14
Yes. Yeah, I I think it really I think it's one that's such a such a beautiful thing that you said because it's such a funny thing that we all have had these feelings of I'm not enough or I don't know what I'm doing or whatever. Or I can't wait till I'm this old because I'll understand I can't wait till I'm this little because I'll have a better grasp but like all I realized every year of my life is we all have no idea what's going on. We literally are playing it like winging it every day. And once I took that in my mind, it was like okay, so I can do anything anyone can do. Like we all have that within us.

Mackenzie  49:51
Yeah. And I want to just kind of shift and talk about something that is really important for all of us to begin to implement, whether they, whether all of you do it already or not, I don't want the word meditation to sound. Like, so far out there, like it's not possible or it's just scary or it's boring or it's not like, you know, meditating at the eye, I can't meditate like I'm, I'm Wait, I have way too much going on, I really want to break the stigma around the word. And let's just, let's just turn it into that simple approach of mindfulness. Having a connection to consciousness and, and being conscious is being present. Being aware. And having mindfulness is the essence of meditation, meditation, is simply sitting comfortably laying comfortably, listening to sound or listening to just the sounds around you, and gaining control over your breathing. And that can be using your fingers to count 1234, exhale, 54321. There's so many different types of meditation. And I just, I want to talk about it because I want everyone to start trying it. Yes, it has a profound purpose and expansive, positive effect on your life. Yes, it bring it back to center. Yeah. And yourself.

Grace  51:44
I love that. You're saying, I just did a Sunday reset this past week that was all about meditation. And I said to it, on it, I always felt like meditation was for this certain type of person. And I didn't fit that mold like it. It was. Yeah, it was like, I wouldn't I didn't even think to look past the word like or what meditation was not possible. Yeah, but once you remove it all, it's just a connection to breath. It really does make a big difference.

Mackenzie  52:15
Yeah, I like to sneak it into the classes I teach. Even if it's like a sculpt class. I'll always put you into a pose or an ending pose or a beginning pose and I'll say Okay, everyone, you've just been meditating for two minutes. A lot of people maybe that's their first time they're like, Oh, that's it. Okay, that's like so easy or that's so nice. Oh my yeah body so relax. And there's just so many types of meditation and and if any, if anyone is curious about it, you can send me a message and I can help navigate you into which one whether that's breath work or TM or moving meditation you know it's it changes every day that's that's something that I think I think I believe you said where everybody and every day and every hour is different. Yeah, and just grab yourself allow yourself to just be okay with starting over and in the reset right that that reset button you know every day like how I feel now right now speaking to you is so much better than I felt when I woke up yeah. Like it's there's there's vast ways to to change your state you know, change your or your aura. One thing I I really believe in is environment your environment is everything you know, set yourself up for success with your environment and really simply you know, you don't have to go on to Amazon and buy things but just just put yourself in a position for success by by being in a space that is so speaks to you and your essence in what you need. I have incense burning beside me and incense helps me keep my breath going every time I breathe in and smell so damn good. I like it breathe, I'm breathing and I don't know it just it puts me into this vibe. And I have a vitamin drip in my body right now of magnesium and vitamin B six and 12 and vitamin C because my nervous system is out of control today because of my ovulation cycle and having these simple Facism so simple, but having little things that keep you come come back to self is really key in living a balanced life. Set your environment up and set yourself up for success.

Grace  54:54
Totally. I I could not agree even more and I feel like I always feel so much better when I just take that extra minute or two to set my space. And to reset my day, whatever it is. And I love what you said about how this morning, how you were feeling versus how you're feeling right now in our conversation and how your mood can switch between them. And then in such a drastic way, but like, it's so true. And I I am trying so hard to get good at this. And I've been practicing and I've, I've I've become pretty good. I used to be in a bad mood and then sit in a bad mood, sulking about it, stay in a bad mood, carry it to our relationships throughout the day. Carry it to everything right. Yeah, but now it's like, if I just take Yeah, but now it's like if I just take that two minutes to set up my space, take five minutes to sit with my breath. Meditate. And just like yeah, just clear my mind it. And like actually bring back what matters? changes your whole day. Oh, yeah.

Mackenzie  56:07
And you're no longer a moody. You know, whatever. Yeah, people you love. Right? And yeah, definitely. It's the people we love that we let out the people that are the classes that yeah, we let out this crap too. Which is so unfair, because I know, you have to have so much love and appreciation and respect for the people that lets you let you allow you to talk to them. Yeah, tone. But that's I think that it really goes ties into my full awareness and maturity is being able to catch yourself when you know, we're not always going to be happy and joyful, right? We have those down moments, but catch yourself so you don't affect your boyfriend or your husband or your you know, your baby girl like like yourself and and bring the love back. And maybe that's removing yourself, right? Like going for a walk or some sometimes I need to write a list of like the whys and the why not? Or like the, why am I doing this? Versus Why do I want to do this? And I see the list and then I start laughing? Yeah, because it's spelled out in front of me yet. My emotions and my interpretation was completely changing what I didn't want to happen. Yeah, you know, like, sometimes we may think so much harder than they have to be. You just write it down on paper, and you see the answers, right? They're like, Listen to your intuition, like, listen to what is sitting in your body.

Grace  57:36
Yes, yes, yes. And I feel like that is something that you have taught me at the basis of everything is that I need to listen to what my body is saying. And actually, the reason that I enjoy meditation is because you do sneak it into classes. And the first time it really, truly clicked for me that I could do it on my own was, we had a one on one when I was pregnant, and you did a spoken, you guide it, you did a guided meditation, and you connected me to Rosie and it was like, life changing. Like seriously, like, I could get emotional talking about it. Now I am like it was one of those things that I that was the first time where ro became this like, real thing. And that I was responsible for making sure that I lived this whole life where I cared for myself so that she could care for herself as well. And it was just like, this whole big thing that literally like changed the whole trajectory of my where I am.

Mackenzie  58:49
And you want to know something funny grace is I was just going with that. I had never spoken to a little baby in a belly before. I I think you may have been my first prenatal client. Yeah. I had never done a guided meditation to a pregnant woman. Yeah, I didn't say okay, do your training first and practice before you speak to grace? No, I just, I read the moment. I read how you were feeling I read your energy. And that's just just in what all that means is just is opening up your eyes and really seeing how you're breathing, seeing how you're feeling and how you're responding to what I'm saying in that moment. And I remember that meditation very well. And I think that there's a lot of truth in this whole conversation we're having is you just have to go with it and try it and you know, do it you know, I didn't want to regret not doing that later on. i It was it was so there in the moment. And yeah, you just you just have to give anything you have a chance.

Grace  59:56
Yes, I totally agree. Yeah, I'm so happy that we've been able to have this conversation. And I hope that everyone listening has gotten a little piece of you and your mindset and carries that into their thoughts throughout the day and this week and just opens their eyes to what their body is saying and where they can, where they can take those opportunities to really listen and reflect on what's going on in their day or what's going on in their week. I, I think that it's so beautiful that your whole concept is taking your opportunities and going head first, but listening along the way, like it's not about burning yourself out. It's about using your, your whole self, your whole being to carry you in this world towards your passions. I'm just so happy that you're able to come and talk here. And I'd love for you to shout out your socials again and your website so people can go and follow and yeah, and I'll make I'll link it all below.

Mackenzie  1:01:05

I can assure you it's not easy. I mean,

Mackenzie  1:02:09
really ball is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. Especially that latest video that I recorded them down there. Wow. That's that's that was that was a challenge. There's, there's a lot to share. And, you know, fitness, beauty health is is a growing platform. And its moment it's you know, this stands out to me right now so much that there's so much that I want to do and so much that I want to share that happens when I'm connecting with the right people connecting in the right moments. And using this great creative process. And this, you know, especially this medium of podcasting, to share information and to and to share what's going on. We have right we're all women and we all have, we all have the same stuff going on. We just experience it differently. So let's you know, let's elevate the conversation and keep us all accountable and aware of how we can support one another but also make us all feel good, right? We just all want to feel good and like a healthy life.

Grace  1:03:13
Yeah, good one. Yeah. Yeah, that is so true. And the more that we have these open conversations, the more that we all feel less alone, and we live in a world where we all know how easy it is to feel alone. So let's just open up that's amazing. That was that was really, really pure of you share and, and thank you for letting me know that. I didn't know that. Sharing. I look forward to meeting more of you, and having more of more of these conversations.

Grace  1:05:44
Beautiful. Thanks so much, Mackenzie. You're welcome.

Wasn't that just such a beautiful conversation? And yes, I know, I got emotional, I can help it. I feel like I had so much inside of me for so long. About the connection that I have with Mackenzie Emma, she has with me and whatever anyways, and it was just like, I finally was able to share it to her face to face and it just like bubbled over and there we are. But that's what I love about connecting with people is that you really, you really can find new, new layers to yourself through conversations and connections with people and through other people's experiences and just opening your heart to new relationships and new understandings. And yeah, so I hope you guys really enjoyed that conversation. It was such a treat. I love having Mackenzie on I hope to have her on more. She's such a joy and honestly use that promo code F BH for her online platform. They are amazing world class workout. Seriously, like the best online workouts I've done. Also, she's just such a, she truly just cares for your body throughout the entire workout. It's not about getting your workout and getting out. It's about connecting with your body and doing this powerful movement and then restoring your body it is truly amazing. And nothing, nothing comes close to what they have to offer. So please, please, please use the promotion code it seriously that's an amazing deal. Thank you so much McKenzie. And yeah, I hope to all see you there because they are like zoom setups so we can all work out together. How fun is that? Let's do it. And if you live in Muskoka or around in the summertime, you got to go in person like it's next level the in person experience. So yeah, thank you so much, Mackenzie. Okay, let's get into our roses thorns and Bud

okay, my rose for this week was going for our morning walks. It's been really, really nice to just get out there and go for our morning walks. And just feel the fresh air and I just feel like I'm like slowly gathering my footing and like re grounding myself and like what my priorities are. So that's been really nice. My Thorn is obviously that row and I've been sick. That's no fun. But um, yeah, I'm I'm it'll, it'll it comes in it'll go right so it's all good, but that is a thorn. And my bud is what am I looking forward to this week? Oh, I think we I think we might go see some family this weekend. As long as we're all feeling good, so that'll be nice. And yeah, it's just it'll be nice to get out of our house and like go be in someone else's house. You know what I mean? Like, like, I don't need to go do something but I do just need to like not be in my house and I need to be able to like chill somewhere else. Does that make sense? Does anyone feel that like, you just like need a new a new a new set of scenery, but like you don't necessarily want to like go do something and just want to like chill. Hopefully that makes sense. But yeah, so that's my roses though urns and butts. Let's get into our entertainment recap. Entertainment, recap. Entertainment, recap. Boop, boop. I have a water my hand so I can't clap. I tried to snap. Anyways. You know what, I'm caught up on euphoria. I Actually, when I'm recording this I haven't seen this week's euphoria, but I will have seen it while the time has come up. So if you want to talk to me about it, you can talk to me about it. But yeah, last week's episode was I was seriously like, like, the entire time and then it just ended and you're like, what just happened? is so good. Again, if you're not watching euphoria, please, please, please watch it. It's so good. Everything about it. I'm still watching Love Island season four. It's taking me a little bit more to get into it. But I last night, I was watching a few episodes. So I think I'm finally like, into the group. I feel like it takes a few episodes and then you like the plotlines thicken and all that stuff. So I've been watching Love Island. And I started too hot to handle but I don't know like for some reason. I feel like too hot to handle is like now that I watched the violin I'm like all these reality shows like that are like knockoffs of love Island. Except for two out tables, like way more like sex obsessed. But anyways, whoo. Sorry, I hit my mic. But anyways, so I tried to watch that but I don't think I can watch those at the same time. And then if you want to know what music I'm listening to, I made a fun lovey W playlist for this week, Sunday reset and I include all my favorite love songs. And just to say there that all my favorite love songs are not like super slow ballads. There's some fun stuff in there. Don't worry. It's It's Love is love as a whole. A whole emotion that is more than just sentimental SAP. There's like fun. And yeah. Anyway, so that's the music I've been listening to. And I'm still reading the same book because you know what, Trevor has been stealing my ereader. But now he's switched to reading on the iPad. Anyways, long story short, is I'm not done the book. And so maybe it's not good, but I think it is I'm just not in the right mindset. But yeah, so that's where we're at. So thank you so much for listening. I hope you enjoyed the conversation that McKenzie and I had, and I look forward to coming back next week on Sunday for Sunday reset and next week for five years time on Wednesday. I wish you all an amazing week ahead and I really appreciate your support.
